Our stay in December 2021 at the Wasanwan Villa in Sri Lanka:
We, two girls in our late 20s from Baden (Germany), were guests at the Wasanwan Villa for five days.
The hotel is run by the owners, Silke and Lucky. Both are very hospitable, attentive, and strive to fulfill their guests' every wish. Silke is originally from Germany, commutes between the continents, and is trained in Ayurveda. Lucky is a native Sri Lankan who also lived in Germany for several years. Lucky has excellent connections in Sri Lanka and always endeavors to fulfill almost every request from his guests. He takes great care to ensure that his guests feel safe and can move about freely in Sri Lanka.
Silke and Lucky organized a five-day tour of Sri Lanka's sights for us. They were particularly attentive to our wishes, suggestions, and expectations. The tour was exceptionally well-organized; we didn't have to worry about a thing! Our German- and English-speaking guide was already waiting for us at the airport. Since we were a bit tired from the flight, our guide immediately reclined the seats in the car so we could relax a little before our first stop, an elephant sanctuary. The hotels, driver, and guides at the sights were all booked in advance. Silke and Lucky had chosen the accommodations very well. They weren't typical tourist hotels but truly good local hotels with a very special, authentic flair, allowing us to experience Sri Lanka and its people in a unique way. The five days were packed with experiences and impressions of an extraordinary country. Our guide took care of us the entire time. He handed us over to the tour guide right at the starting point of each sightseeing tour and was already waiting for us at the end to pick us up again. The hotels where we stayed worked the same way. Lucky was also in constant contact with him. We really saw a lot, were extremely well looked after and protected, and now, after five days, we're a bit exhausted.
Upon arriving at Wasanwan Villa, we felt right at home from the very first moment. The family atmosphere of the small hotel with its four guest rooms immediately made us feel like we were arriving at home with friends in a breathtakingly beautiful country. We especially appreciated the freshly cooked, typical local dishes served daily, prepared in the traditional way by the family. Silke and Lucky were also happy to accommodate our individual dietary requests. For breakfast, there was fresh fruit every morning, practically straight from the tree to our table. The fresh fruit was incredibly delicious and bursting with flavor, a taste rarely found in Germany. In the evenings, the cuisine was varied, and European dishes, such as fresh grilled fish, were also available upon request. Lucky clearly takes great pleasure in cooking for his guests. Since he is equally familiar with local and German cuisine, the food is always a true delight.
The hotel also has its own tuk-tuk driver who reliably drove us from A to B and always kept an eye on us, so we felt very safe at all times.
What makes Wasanwan Villa special is its Ayurvedic concept. Having successfully completed a year-long Ayurvedic training program in Sri Lanka, Silke is particularly keen to introduce her guests to this traditional Indian medical system of diverse therapies and healing methods. As beginners to Ayurveda, we were fortunate enough to start with an hour-long consultation with a very experienced, kind, and warm-hearted doctor. We felt very comfortable during this time. At our request, Silke accompanied us and further explained the intricacies of Ayurveda. The doctor recommended specific remedies and treatments, which Silke then explained to us in more detail. Silke also accompanied us to a local pharmacy and demonstrated the remedies the doctor had recommended and how to use them. We found this to be incredibly thoughtful and beneficial. The Wasanwan Villa offers additional services such as wonderfully soothing Ayurvedic massages, morning yoga at palm tree level on the rooftop terrace, meditation, and simply the opportunity to unwind, switch off and relax, or spend a few pleasant hours on the stunningly beautiful and deserted beach, which is about 300m away from the Wasanwan Villa.
For us, the hotel has its exceptional and special value because Silke and Lucky were very welcoming to us and took a lot of time to make our holiday as wonderful as possible.
Overall, it was a wonderful holiday with great experiences, as Silke and Lucky showed us the country in their own way.
Thank you both so much!
Keep it up!
We will definitely see each other again, see you soon…Giulia and Jenny
